Manchester United should not underestimate their opponents West Ham United in the third round of the FA Cup according to the manager Sir Alex Ferguson. United will be making the trip to Upton Park on Saturday looking to progress to the next round of the FA Cup, but this will not be easy because West Ham are a formidable opposition at home. United have been extremely unlucky in the FA Cup over the last few years due to the fact that they have often faced strong opposition in the first few rounds of the competition itself. As a result, they have been unsuccessful in the competition over the last couple of years.
Due to the fact that United have a very comfortable advantage in the league, they can afford to focus on other competitions like the FA Cup. Ferguson is expected to name a strong starting line-up for the match against West Ham, who come into the match on the back of a poor run of form. Sam Allardyce’s men have managed just one victory in the last five matches, which has left them to drop out of the top half of the table. United have already enjoyed victory over West Ham in the league earlier in the season.
“We’ve had some really difficult ties over last three or four years. But this is a particularly hard one, they’re in good form and they’re at home. Sam [Allardyce] has done great job there getting them promoted first of all. It’s not easy to bounce right back but they’ve done well and their form has been very good. They’ve had some excellent results,” said Ferguson. The 2-1 victory over Norwich during the weekend was the first for West Ham since the 3-1 win over Chelsea at the start of December.
