Former Arsenal striker Charlie Nicholas believes Manchester United may want to offload Alexis Sanchez at the earliest opportunity with the Chilean having simply failed to adapt to the club’s style of play. The 29-year-old was a headline signing for United during the winter transfer window after he arrived from Arsenal in a straight-swap deal involving Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
However, he has since struggled to make a meaningful impact with just four goals coming from his 30 appearances and during the current campaign, there have been many occasions where he has been excluded from the match day squad by Jose Mourinho. As such, there has been the regular speculation that Sanchez could part ways with United in the near future and Nicholas via speaking on Sky Sports believes the same may happen.
He said:“It’s on the edge with (Paul) Pogba being left out, and (Juan) Mata being left out the other night. I think in a heart beat they would love to get rid of Sanchez. He could be one of the biggest wastes of money within our game because of the salary that he’s got and because of the ability that we’ve seen before. I think it’s right on the edge again, I think it’s right on the edge. A lot of the players look as if it’s truly individual and just trying to survive and come through.”
Sanchez had been completely left out of the match day squad for the recent Champions League game against Young Boys and shortly after that encounter, the club have confirmed that the Chilean has sustained a hamstring injury which could keep him out for the rest of the year.Based on this, it appears that Sanchez may not make another appearance for the Red Devils with the winter transfer window approaching but it remains to be seen whether any elite club would be willing to meet his staggering wages of nearly £500,000-a-week.
