The agent of Romelu Lukaku has revealed that the striker could fancy a fresh challenge away from Manchester United when the current season concludes. The Belgium international has endured a stop-start season with the Red Devils this term, but he has still managed to score 15 goals across all competitions for the club.
In an interview covered by Sky Sports News, agent Federico Pastorello said that the marksman is focused on completing the current season before considering options for the future. He added that the former Everton man wants to test himself in different leagues, and a potential departure from Old Trafford cannot be ruled out.
He said: “At the moment he is very focused on finishing the season. The competition for third and fourth place in England is very tight so let’s see what will happen in the future at the end of the season. It’s his second season here [at United] and he will still have three years on his contract until the end. Let’s see. He’s someone who loves to know a different culture, a different football. The future is really very open but at the moment, we don’t discuss about that because really the season is in a big moment. He likes Italy. When he was a child he followed a lot the Italian league.”
Lukaku has contributed 42 goals for the club over the past 21 months, but he has nonetheless received criticism from the fans, given the tendency to squander clear-cut chances. As such, there have been many occasions during the second half of the season where Marcus Rashford has been preferred ahead of him to lead the line, and he may not fancy a similar kind of role next term. According to recent reports, Lukaku has been linked with a potential move to Inter Milan with Mauro Icardi possibly heading in the opposite direction. The Argentine has been left unsettled after being stripped from the captaincy, but he recently made a comeback for the Nerazzurri after two months.
