Manchester United manager David Moyes has praised his team after they managed one of the best victories during his managerial reign at the club against Newcastle United. United ran out 4-0 winners over the troubled north-east club to make it three matches without defeat. It is one of the few positive aspects for the club in a very poor campaign. This win was crucial in more than one ways, as it was the precursor to the second leg against Bayern Munich. United managed a 1-1 draw in the first leg, but the Germans are the favourites to progress to the semifinals of the Champions League.
January signing Juan Mata continued to influence proceedings after scoring two goals and creating one wonderful assist. Moyes persuaded the club to pay in excess of £ 35 million for the midfielder, who has been unable to get into the Chelsea first team this season. It is proving like a sensible buy after the 25-year-old slowly appears to be coming back to his best. Moyes said that United are certainly did not start well, but they came into the match after 30 minutes. From then on, they never looked back and registered a brilliant win.
Mata was used in his favourite central role due to the absence of Robin van Persie.
“It was a perfect performance in the Premier League, which is most important. We didn’t start the game as well as I’d have liked but after the first 20 or 30 minutes we got to grips with it and there were some really good performances. It was a great team performance. We had to defend well and the goalkeeper made two or three great saves, and I am really pleased with the result. I think he [Mata] has been terrific,” said Moyes about the performance and Mata.
